The Snow Camp Historical Drama Society is a year-round, multi-purpose, non-profit group organized by James Wilson. The Society organizes various productions, festivals and activities that provide the public with professional theater and cultural education throughout the year.

The historical outdoor drama THE SWORD OF PEACE is a mainstay of the organization and is now entering its 37th year. PATHWAY TO FREEDOM opened in 1994 and is the only outdoor drama in the United States that portrays African-American history and the Underground Railroad. A Children’s Theater production and a Broadway Musical are also produced each summer.

Cultural education is provided with the annual Youth Drama Camp, the Molasses and Colonial Living Festival, the Children’s Theater Tour, and the Historical Site itself.

The future is looking bright for the Society and new plans are being created. There are also plans to improve and expand the Historical Site. The Arts and Audiences Section of the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources, recognizes the Snow Camp Historical Drama Society as a professional theater organization and provides grant assistance to this organization from funds appropriated by the North Carolina General Assembly and the National Endowment of the Arts.

The Society relies on an active group of volunteers and generous donations from individuals to maintain the activities. The support of the community and media has helped the growth and development of all the activities in the past 35 years. We want to extend our thanks and hope that everyone feels welcome and a part of the exciting activities of the Snow Camp Historical Drama Society.
